Cuoco is getting good at announcing pregnancies.
When it came to announcing her pregnancy to the public, Kaley Cuoco chose a somewhat unique path that ultimately made baby Matilda famous! When Cuoco had to inform her coworkers about her planned addition to the 2023 TV schedule, Based on a True Story, that process took a new turn. In reality, what began as a straightforward prod to break the news evolved into an important instrument for the tale that will be told in the upcoming Peacock original comedy/thriller.
The Big Bang Theory veteran shared a sweet anecdote about how she revealed she had pregnant with Ozark actor Tom Pelphrey during a pre-birth interview with the Emmys magazine. All of it came down to her Ava Bartlett character, who wasn’t originally intended to be pregnant. As it turned out, the actress didn’t have to abandon this new project even though she had to stop riding horses while pregnant. This was made possible in part by the hints she gave to her producers:
I’m like, ‘What if this character was pregnant?’ And they’re like, ‘Umm …’ And I’m like, ‘Think really hard about it because maybe it’s a really good idea — and it might be the only option.’ They were looking at me, and I’m smiling, and they all went, ‘Oh, my God, are you pregnant?’ I’m like, ‘Uh-huh.’

Although Kaley Cuoco claimed that she wasn’t expecting to become a mother at this time in her life, Based on a True Story didn’t intend to have a pregnant woman as one of its leads. The connection she felt with Pelphrey was what ultimately convinced her, and before anyone else could react, Cuoco was teasing the joyous occasion on Tik Tok. In addition, she was jumping streaming houses from Max, her normal base, to Peacock.

In fact, executive producer and creator Craig Rosenberg saw Cuoco’s evolving parenthood journey as a wonderful experience that only made things more fascinating. He turned this twist into an opportunity. The comedy in Based on a True Story was influenced by true crimes and was able to change into something a little different for the following reasons, according to Rosenberg:
Kaley as a pregnant woman — we haven’t seen that before. We would still get the Kaley we wanted, but we’d have a new Kaley, so to speak, going through all different story elements and the challenges that come with being pregnant.
Kaley Cuoco
Of course, if this were a new season of Max’s The Flight Attendant, there would be a tonne more issues to address when attempting to incorporate Kaley Cuoco’s pregnancy. However, given that the new Peacock series was as new as, well, a newborn, it wasn’t impossible to make some modifications. Craig Rosenberg acknowledged that the conversation didn’t really need to shift much when it came to bringing up the kid because the truth of the situation was “in your face, so to speak.”
Additionally, the timing was ideal because it was discovered that Based on a True Story was filmed between the fifth and ninth months of the expectant mother’s pregnancy. Kaley Cuoco and her crew managed to stick another landing despite working 12-hour days and wrapping up the filming schedule less than a month before Matilda was due. Only one more passenger would be there on arrival this time who wasn’t on board for takeoff.
Those of you with a Peacock membership will be able to see Based on a True Story when it premieres on June 8. The Flight Attendant and Harley Quinn’s earlier seasons are also still available to stream for devoted Max subscribers to watch.
