Celebrities Who Love ‘Friends’: David Beckham, Selena Gomez and More

Could they be any more obsessed? FRIENDS featured a who’s who of A-list guest CELEBRITIES during. Its iconic run, but the show’s celebrity reach did not end there. In the years since it originally aired, stars from every arena have professed their love for the sitcom.

Friends, starring Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. The series won fans over with its relatable story lines, hilarious gags and romantic arcs.

While many viewers tuned in as the show aired on NBC. Others discovered it via cable reruns, DVD box sets or streaming platforms. After years of speculation and demand for a reunion. HBO Max announced in February 2020. That the six main cast members would film an unscripted special that would drop in May of that year. However, the coronavirus pandemic delayed the event, and it eventually premiered in May 2021.

Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry and Schwimmer. Returned to the original soundstage where the show was filmed, Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio. The former costars read lines from old scripts, played a trivia game reminiscent of the one in season 4’s “The One With the Embryos,” reflected on the show’s popularity and enjoyed visits from past guest celebrities, including Tom SelleckMaggie WheelerJames Michael TylerElliott GouldChristina Pickles and THOMAS LINNON

Several megawatt celebrities— from David Beckham to Lady Gaga   — participated in the reunion too. “It was really thrilling, a little intimidating, and then thrilling because they like Friends so much,” Kudrow told Entertainment Tonight in May 2021.

Although some fans hoped the special was a sign of more to come. The cast made it clear that reunion was one time thing. “This will really make me cry but this will be the last time that we’re ever asked about the show as a group, that we will do this,” Cox explained during the reunion. “We’re not gonna do this again in 15 more years.”

Kudrow also shot down the idea of stepping back into their roles. “That’s all up to [creators] Marta [Kauffman] and David [Crane] and I once heard them say, and I completely agree, that they ended the show very nicely, everyone’s lives are very nice,” she noted. “They would have to unravel all those good things in order for there to be stories. I don’t want anyone’s happy ending unraveled.”

The actress pushed her Stillwater costar Matt Damon aside in an effort to introduce herself to Schwimmer at an event.

“I was like, ‘Matt, move!’ And I literally shoved him full-force out of the way, leapt over a couch … ran over to him, and was like, ‘PIVOT!'” Breslin explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in August 2021.

The Scream Queens alum admitted that she ended up crying a bit during the memorable moment, joking that the Friends alum “was super nice” but a little “scared” by the interaction. She is one of the celebrities who likes friends alot!

“#FBF A sad attempt at the Rachel hairdo 😂 #friends,” the singer captioned an Instagram photo in May 2021. Aniston then responded, “LOVE IT,” with the fire emoji.

Kaley Cuoco

The Big Bang Theory alum posted an Instagram Story video of herself crying while watching the May 2021 reunion. “2 mins into the Friends reunion show @HBOMax,” she captioned the clip, remarking on how she was already so emotional seeing the cast come together again. 

David Beckham

The soccer player revealed during the May 2021 reunion that he watches Friends when he is away from WIFE victoria beckham and their four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. “You know, I travel a lot and I’m always in hotels, I’ve always got down time,” he explained. “When I’m missing the kids, when I’m missing the family, I put on Friends because it makes me smile.”  

David added that he considers himself to be most like Monica because he is “a clean freak” and revealed that his favorite episode is “The One Where No One’s Ready” from season 3. “It’s one of those episodes that when I’m away and I’m feeling a little bit low, I put it on and it makes me smile — almost to the point of crying,” he confessed.

Cox quizzed the singer on Friends trivia in an October 2019 Billboard video, and he did so well that he won the Geller Cup.Like other celebrities Puth also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the sitcom alongside the Scream star and Kudrow one month earlier. 

Selena Gomez

The Disney Channel alum took her appreciation for the series to a whole new level in January 2020 when she interviewed Aniston on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Rachel was my life!” Gomez divulged. “I cried when the whole season was over, but what made me so happy is now people my age and everyone else is just obsessed and it just makes me so happy for you and for the show because it’s iconic.”  Like other celebrities she is also their fan.

The Morning Show star replied, “You’ve always been so sweet. You really are a genuine fan. It’s amazing. We’ve known each other for years. You’ve been to my house, we’ve had pizza — girl after my own heart.”  

Kit Harington

The Game of Thrones alum is so devoted to Friends that he considers himself a Geller. “I can’t quite be specific about which one, but I know I’m part of the Geller family,” he detailed during the May 2021 reunion. “I’m incredibly anal, I’m neurotic as hell and I wear overly tight trousers.”  

One of Harington’s favorite episodes is season 5’s “The One With the Cop,” and he applauded the cast’s mastery of physical comedy. “[It’s] one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV,” he said of Schwimmer, Aniston and Perry’s famous “pivot” scene. 

Kaitlyn Bristowe

The season 11 Bachelorette and her then-boyfriend, Jason Tartick, dressed up as Rachel and Ross for Halloween in October 2019. “Hello, Vegas? We would like more alcohol,” she captioned an Instagram video of the pair recreating a scene from season 5’s “The One in Vegas.”

The Korean boy band declared their love for the series during the May 2021 reunion. “My mom bought me the DVDs of the whole series when I was in elementary school,” RM said. “Friends really had a big hand in teaching me English, and the show really taught me things about life and true friendship.” 

Laura Dern

The Oscar winner cheered on her pal Cox in May 2021 in anticipation of the reunion. “Finally!” she captioned and instagram video of the Cougar Town alum recreating a costume from her early days on the show.
