Who is Berlin?
In the series, Berlin goes by Andrés de Fonollosa. He is the half-brother of the mastermind Sergio Marquina, best known to viewers of “Money Heist” as The Professor (Álvaro Morte). Throughout five seasons of the popular television show, the brothers were involved in a significant bank heist. Berlin is a professional crook, much like The Professor. His area of expertise? stealing jewelry.
Because all of the members of the Professor’s heisting team in the series have nicknames with city themes, he goes by Berlin. Lisbon, Rio, Tokyo, and other cities were included in “Money Heist,” also known as “La Casa de Papel.”
Berlin’s romantic history was shown to us through the original series and the group’s various misadventures in hopes of receiving a large payment from the Bank of Spain. During Seasons One and Two, Adriana, a hostage at the Royal Mint of Spain, was involved in a poisonous romantic relationship. It also comes to light that he had five previous marriages.
What Is The Show ‘Berlin’ About?
“Berlin” is a prequel to “Money Heist,” set before the events of the series’ plot and providing background on the character’s previous life as a jewelry thief who was pulling off his heists before joining up with his brother.
“The only two things that are sure to turn a bad day into a great one: love, and a payday worth millions,” states the official Netflix description. They are the reason Berlin can enjoy his golden years, during which he is still completely unaware of his disease and has not become imprisoned like a rat in the Spanish Mint. Here he begins the preparations for one of his most spectacular heists: vanishing gems valued at 44 million like a magic act. He’ll get one of the three gangs he’s ever stolen with to help him accomplish it.
What Happened to ‘Berlin’ in ‘Money Heist’?
By the time “Money Heist” / “La Casa de Papel” rolled around, Berlin was terminally ill. Viewers weren’t made aware of this reality until several seasons into the show, which he concealed behind a dapper demeanor and a permanent poker face.
Berlin decided in the closing moments of Season Two to give his life in a round of police fire to save the rest of the crew, which allowed them to escape.
In the ensuing three seasons, Berlin makes a flashback appearance, giving viewers greater insight into his life. A few of his five wives are introduced to us in these passages. Among them is Tatiana (Diana Gomez), who in the end develops feelings for Rafael (Patrick Criado), Berlin’s son. Berlin, distraught, makes a jewelry theft mistake and is arrested for the first time. In the show’s last scene, which was also a flashback, the guy separates from both his son and his wife.
But as we’ll soon discover in “Berlin,” which is currently streaming, we have a hunch there’s a lot more to this tale of this cunning character.
